Most communities are built around what people have achieved. This one is built around what people are working on, which means it will regularly contain admissions of struggle, relapse, doubt and starting over.
That is the whole value, and it is fragile. One dismissive reply teaches everyone reading it to post only their wins. So these guidelines are less about prohibited content and more about protecting the conditions that make an honest post possible.
01What This Space Is For
Guilds, pacts and shared posts exist so that change is not attempted alone. People use them to commit to something publicly, to be seen making progress, and to be met without judgement when they don't.
Assume the person posting is being brave. Someone writing that they've broken a 40-day streak is telling the truth in front of an audience. Respond to the person, not the number.
02What We Expect
- Be honest about your own progress. Inflated streaks and invented milestones make everyone else's real ones worth less.
- Respond to setbacks the way you'd want yours met. Encouragement, or nothing.
- Keep advice in its lane. Share what worked for you. Do not diagnose people, prescribe treatment, or tell someone what their experience means.
- Respect what someone chose to share, and its limits. A person sharing one thing has not invited questions about everything.
- Disagree with the idea, not the person. Directness is welcome; contempt is not.
03What Isn't Allowed
These apply anywhere you can be seen by another member — guild posts, pacts, comments, display names, avatars and profiles.
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or targeting a person or group — including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- Sexual content, sexualised commentary about other members, or any sexual content involving minors — the last of which we report to the authorities;
- Encouraging self-harm, suicide, disordered eating, or dangerous practices — including extreme fasting, over-training and unqualified medical advice dressed as a protocol;
- Posing as a professional you are not, or presenting personal opinion as medical, psychological, legal or financial advice;
- Sharing someone else's private information — including screenshots of another member's entries, messages or data;
- Spam, solicitation, recruitment, MLM pitches and off-platform promotion;
- Impersonating another member, or Metanoia staff.
04If Someone Is In Danger
Metanoia is not a crisis service, and no member is obliged to act as one. If someone appears to be in immediate danger, the useful response is not a comment thread.
Report the post so we see it, and — if you believe there is an immediate risk to life — contact your local emergency services. If you are the person in difficulty, please reach out to a qualified professional or an emergency line in your country. The Platform is a tool for growth, not treatment.
05Other People's Privacy
What a member shares inside a guild was shared with that guild, not with the internet. Do not repost, screenshot or forward it elsewhere without their agreement.
This matters more here than in most communities, because a Metanoia post can carry health information, admissions about mental state, or details of someone's personal circumstances. Treat it as you would want yours treated.
06Reporting and Moderation
Every post and profile can be reported. Reports reach our moderation queue and are reviewed by a person, not automatically actioned.
Reporting is confidential — we do not tell the reported member who raised it. Reporting in bad faith, or as a way to harass someone, is itself a violation.
You can also block a member, which removes their content from your view and prevents them contacting you, without any report or explanation.
07What Happens When Someone Crosses the Line
We aim for the smallest response that fixes the problem. Depending on severity and history, that may be:
- Removing the content, with a note explaining why;
- A warning, where the intent looks careless rather than hostile;
- Suspension from community features, keeping your private account and data intact;
- Termination of the account, for serious or repeated violations.
Content involving minors, credible threats, or doxxing skips the ladder and results in immediate removal and account termination.
If you believe we got it wrong, email hello@metanoiaos.com and a different person will look at it. Enforcement of these guidelines sits alongside our Terms of Service, which govern your account overall.
08Changes
As the community grows, these guidelines will need to change — usually because something happened that they did not anticipate. Material changes will be notified in the app at least 14 days before taking effect, and the Effective date above always reflects the current version.
